Technology and Solution Award

The objective of the Technologies and Solution Award is to explore the excellent “technologies” and “solutions” in promoting the sustainable development of cities and communities. The Award focuses on dealing with concrete problems and challenges in certain particular field of sustainable development and requires innovation and replicability.

Applicants

Innovative “technologies” or “solutions” in the following areas are applicable based on the 22 topics of the Third International Conference On Green Urbanism.

1. City Urban Form and Natural Resources
2. Urbanization of Rural Area: Energy, water and food security
3. Strengthening the Connection between City Center and its Gateways
4. Sustainable Public Transportation and Mobility Systems
5. Creative Environments: Sustainable Places of Living, Working and Recreation
6. Green Infrastructures and Social Services
7. Green Buildings: Designing Buildings with Nature and with Technologies
8. Energy-efficiency in the Built Environment
9. Waste Management, Pollution and Health Risks
10. Climate Responsive Architecture: Solar Architecture and Renewable Energies
11. Green Buildings and districts in passive designs: Daylight in Buildings and Nature Ventilation
12. Innovative and Eco-friendly Materials for the Building Envelope
13. Strategies for new cities proposals in developing countries
14. Towards Zero-waste city
15. Landscape, gardens, streetscapes and urban biodiversity
16. Water, Local food and short supply chains
17. Formulating the Principles of Green Urbanism
18. Urban governance, leadership and best practice in education, research and knowledge

Judging Criteria

Participants should make presentations centering on the following 5 aspects.
-Challenge(problem): What are the main issues or challenges that the technology or solution target at regarding sustainable development of cities and communities?
-Method: What are the main pathways and methods that the technology or solution adopts to solve the above problems?
-Innovation: Originality or differences and advantages over other related technologies or solutions
-Replication: the replicability of the technology or solution; under what conditions can the technology or solution be replicated, how is the social impact of the technology or solution?
-Recognition: Please provide relevant evidence materials and media reports for reference.

WRITTEN SUBMISSION

The Written Submission, to be a maximum of 3,000 words and to contain not more than ten photographs. The Written Submission should show how the “technologies” or “solutions” relate to each of the criteria set out above.


Judging:

The International Panel of Judges will review each submission at the Interim Judging stage and will select technology or solution to be Presented at the LivCom Finals, to be held at the venue and during the dates quoted on the Registration Form.

Final Presentations:

If following the Interim Judging process, your technology or solution is selected as a Finalist for the LivCom Awards, there are some key points to bear in mind for the format of your Presentation at the event:

•A maximum of two representatives of the Project will be permitted to make the Presentation.

•Presentations must be made in English.

•Presentations may last up to 15 minutes. If you already submit paper to GU, your paper presentation will be combined with the LivCom Awards presentation. In this case, you need to answer the above 5 questions.

•Appropriate equipment will be provided. Presenters will be permitted to use other visual aids, e.g. PowerPoint (an LCD projection system will be provided), during their Presentation. Other equipment must be supplied by the Presenters. LivCom will not be responsible for the performance of equipment not supplied by the Organisers.

•At the end of each Presentation, the Judges will ask questions. If the assistance of an interpreter is required you must provide the interpreter and extra time will be allowed.
